But like many things, when you get down to the final decision, there are a lot of details hidden in this segment of kitchen design. First, what kind…

Today’s kitchens require considerable attention to details by general contractors and remodelers when it comes to planning and installing a kitchen. Here are a few details to consider: Homeowners may want niche items such as a swing-out pot filler faucet on the wall next to the stove, and the flexibility of two drawer-type dishwashers instead…

Well-organized storage! Where is the potato peeler? The muffin tin? Who enjoys doing the weekly laundry chores? It can be made more pleasant and efficient with a remodeled laundry room. Well-located countertops, some shelves, cabinets and a laundry sink will make that job much easier! Use all of the space! Have your contractor build cabinets that go right up to the ceiling. Don’t lose potential storage space by having empty soffits above the cabinets. If you can, have a wall removed to increase the size of the kitchen and decrease the size of the dining room. This not only provides…

Here’s a great idea; split a large master bath and coordinate for “his” side and “her” side. This concept expands on the double sink lav arrangement. Depending on the dimensions of the room, you can have dual lavs and showers, or perhaps 2 of everything! Taking the concept even farther, two completely separate master baths…

If you bake or are into gourmet cooking, your ideal kitchens will not look the same. The baker wants an upgraded oven and a pop-up mixing stand for a heavy-duty mixer. The chef will want items such as a wok, a griddle or a slow-simmer burner or cooking specialty dishes. Refrigeration has changed over the…

Many homes in Whatcom County have stairs; some are homes built in the 1970’s in the typical split-level style of the era, with the entry door at the mid-point of the stairs; some are homes built on hillsides with up to 3 floor levels, others are just multi-story homes. Sooner or later, these stairs will…

What does your entry door say about your home? Your entry door greets guests and visitors when they enter your home and sets the tone for what lies inside. Scratched, dented, rusting, or doors needing repainting can detract from your home’s overall appearance, giving a poor first impression. Corroded, painted-over, worn out door hardware can…

New countertops will make a tremendous impact on your kitchen’s appearance. Popular countertop materials are eco-friendly composites, granite, quartzite, stone, butcher block, solid…

Decks, even when constructed of man-made materials, need regular maintenance, although composite materials require less attention, but don’t be fooled; they still need to be cleaned at least yearly.
