What’s a good kitchen countertop material?
- Quartz is a durable low maintenance engineered material, with a great range of colors and patterns. It is sensitive to heat, so don’t put hot pots on it.
- Solid surfacing (sometimes known as Corian) is non porous, maintenance free, with extensive color and pattern options. Also sensitive to heat; just don’t put any hot pans on a countertop without a protective pad under it.
- Marble has the veining you would expect in this material, is a ceaselessly popular countertop for it’s elegant look.
- Natural stone/ granite is heat resistant and durable, but is prone to chipping or cracking.
- Laminate countertops are a good choice for the budget minded homeowner. Least pricey of all the options, and come in a huge variety of colors and patterns. As with the previous options, don’t put hot pans on it.
When planning a kitchen remodel, it is often a need to replace the countertop; if you are not sure what you want, going with a less expensive material will give you time to think about what material to install in the future. A good contractor can help you decide what is important to you in the updating of the kitchen.
