Remodeling outdated bathrooms can be a headache. Plumbing, layout and design can be overwhelming. But it can also be rewarding, both in enjoyment of your new bathroom, and in knowing you have increased the value of your home. Original bath fixtures can be simply basic, functional elements, selected more for price than desirability. By the…

Are you desperate to the point of fantasizing about taking a sledgehammer to the room yourself? Then it is time to sit down and figure out how to make it happen. This really is not a futile effort. What do you need to know to do this? Your budget. It is difficult to define the…

This bathroom remodel replaced a typical tub/shower combo with a glass shower. A new marble-topped lav was installed with open storage below. This bath is a now an elegant small bath! The next photo shows a brightly lit bath that was lightened by utilizing a glass shower surround, allowing sunlight to filter through. Going to the Better Homes and Gardens link…

Add on to that house. You may have many reasons for wanting to stay where you are, from the kids are in a great school, to you only live 5 miles from work, to you home has a great view. So add on to that home; if you don’t want to expand horizontally, you can…

This remodel won for the residential bath $25,000 – $75,000 category for Whatcom County, Washington.   The bathroom in this small, historic one-story home was gutted and completely remodeled to a more modern and sophisticated look, while paying homage to the original architecture.  Custom cherry cabinetry, solid surface countertops, marmoleum, and tile were integrated to achieve…

These are from our NAHB Whatcom County Master Remodelers REX award for best residential remodel under $75,000. This 1978, three bedroom two bath home was dated and lacked the square footage for the entire family to enjoy.  With a confined kitchen, they wanted a space to open the kitchen up to and entertain.  We added…

We are in avery rainy part of the country, so we all appreciate a covered porch and a mud room, so as to not track water and muddy shoes into the house.  Here are a couple of photos showing before and after for one home’s porch remodel. The photos are from Remodeling magazine, online.…

This is one of our recently completed bath remodels.  The origional lav, lighting fixture and mirror were very outdated, and it was just time to replace them with more elegant items.  The origional lav and light fixture were very 1970’s and definitely showing wear.  The replacements are a warm tone natural wood, with a more…

Before renovation, the kitchen in this historic Eldridge area home was outdated and didn’t take advantage of the home’s architectural strengths: The homeowners wanted a kitchen that would be reminiscent of the home’s existing classic style. However, the room presented two design challenges: an abundance of doors limited wall space… and the wall behind the…

This is one of my (Melissa’s) personal favorites, likely because this is the first completed project I saw after starting work at Rose Construction. A 1937 architectural award-winner, this historic home has wonderful structure and charming details. However, the upstairs bathroom was lacking in both space and appeal: The homeowner was adamant that any renovations…

The kitchen in this converted condo lay inside an approximately sixty year old former apartment building. The small kitchen still had its original white metal cabinets: and an inefficient layout: Furthermore, the room was closed off by an intrusive wall: and there was little in the way of storage: However, the room highlighted a bright…

One of our favorite projects was an outdoor kitchen and living space in the Silver Beach neighborhood. I thought some of you might be interested to see the progression from the existing home through the work in progress and finally to the completed project. So, here’s the story: The clients entertain often and wanted a…
